The Kite Runner

Published in 2003, The Kite Runner is Khaled Hosseini’s first novel. As a modern bildungsroman, it tells the story of late twentieth-century Afghanistan through the eyes of Amir – who grows to adulthood in the shadow of war. Throughout this highly emotional novel, Hosseini explores the brutal treatment of the country’s Hazara population, and how it is essential for individuals to stand up against oppression – regardless of the consequences.
